Amrita Rao is hoping to dabble in business and pleasure on her date with acclaimed international designer Roberto Cavalli’s son, Tomasso.Renowned international Italian designer Roberto Cavalli's eldest son, Tomasso, will be attending an event in Mumbai very soon. Amrita is major fan of Roberto’s clothing and accessory line, and is over the moon about meeting Tomasso.
Apart from spending a quiet evening with Tomasso, Amrita hopes to make this association commercially viable as well. When we contacted her about this, she messaged ‘I am very excited to meet the international fashion guru's son, as I have always been a fan of his high-fashion designs. I am hopeful of making a long-term association with the Cavalli brand.’
A designer who worked with her in the past and who refused to be named, spoke rather crudely on the issue saying, “It's probably a good thing, considering Amrita’s fashion sense needs a major upgrade. They could put some really good designs on her, but the part of her wanting to become associated with their brand is a little too far-fetched, I must say. However, I do feel that an actress such as Kareena Kapoor, who flaunts a lot of Cavalli, and that too in a good way, would be perfect as the Indian brand ambassador for them. Cavalli has finally made its way into the middle class section, and Kareena’s popularity could help bring more awareness of the brand in India.”
The designer added, "There was a time when Ameesha Patel preened all over Bollywood that she was going to sign an exclusive contract with Louis Vuitton, since one of the executives from the fashion house met her on an international flight where she was flaunting her LV accessories and was impressed with her. Nothing came of it. Similarly, nothing much will come of Amrita's meeting with the fashion expert. Have you ever seen her wearing anything worthy and memorable of a red carpet appearance?"
Apart from her date with Tomasso, Amrita is going international in other ways by contributing to a fund-raiser hosted by Prince Michael of Kent that will be held in London, as a tribute to the 26/11 terror attack victims. Michael had personally invited her to perform at his event. But she couldn't make it because of shooting assignments. Whether or not Rao makes it big in the international scene - that only time will tell!
She has completed shooting for Hook Ya Crook, which will release in early 2010.
